Cancer is a disease in which cells in the body fastly grow out of control. When cancer starts from a woman’s reproductive organs, it is called gynecologic cancer. The five types of gynecologic cancer are: cervical, ovarian, uterine, vaginal, and vulvar.

Treatments for gynecologic cancers

Before you start treatment, our gynecologic oncologists will work together to perform a comprehensive diagnostic evaluation, which may include a pelvic, ultrasound, lab or blood tests, to determine the type and stage of the cancer. Our gynecologic oncologists may also use state-of-the-art robotic and minimally invasive surgical technology to locate and remove tumors during the treatment that have spread in the pelvic and abdominal regions, which are performed to help prevent complications after surgery.

Types of Gynecologic Cancer

Cervical cancer begins in the cervix, which is the lower, narrow end of the uterus is also called the womb.
Ovarian cancer begins in the ovaries, which are located on other side of the uterus. Some ovarian cancers can also begin in the fallopian tubes or peritoneum.
Uterine cancer begins in the uterus, the pear-shaped organ in a woman’s pelvis where the baby grows when she is the stage of preganacy.
Vaginal cancer begins in the vagina, which is the hollow, tube-like channel between the bottom of the uterus or the outside of the body.
Vulvar cancer begins in the vulva, of the outer part of the female organs.
